Kyle Macdonald - The Cost of Caring

Registration is closed for this event
Recently, through the publishing of the People’s Mental Health Report, we have seen how our public mental health system is failing so many people, and struggling to keep up with an ever increasing demand.
Kyle will discuss how decades of neo-liberal policies have slowly eroded the provision of effective mental health services, and how caring has been medicalised, individualised and commodified as a result.
He will discuss how we can use the findings of the People’s Report, to not just provide better treatment, but what it can tell us about how we need fundamentally re-think the place of compassion in public life and discourse.”

Kyle MacDonald is a psychotherapist, NZ Herald columnist and Newstalk ZB “ The Nutters Club with Mike King” co-host.  For more see: psychotherapy.org.nz.
