Tax Justice for All

Tax is a hot topic right now: tax havens continue to facilitate international tax avoidance; and domestic taxation is under scrutiny by the Tax Working Group. Can tax systems reduce inequalities, poverty, other negative social and environmental forces? Hence interest in forming a Tax Justice Network in New Zealand – to be a branch of the international Tax Justice Network.

Nicky Hager will focus on tax havens as an instrument of tax avoidance by multinationals and rich individuals. What can or should New Zealand do?

Louise Delany will talk about plans so far for developing a Tax Justice Network in New Zealand Aotearoa – roles, goals, and practical issues.

Nicky is an investigative journalist with extensive experience in researching tax havens and tax avoidance.

Louise is a senior lecturer with a law and health background. She teaches at Otago University, Wellington.
