The Rise of Carry: The Dangerous Consequences of Volatility Suppression and the New Financial Order of Decaying Growth and Recurring Crisis
www.riseofcarry.com

The Rise Of Carry was named 2020 Globalization Book of the Year by the influential Capital Ebbs and Flows economics blog.  Kevin and his co-authors have been featured on popular podcasts such Bloomberg’s OddLots and Demetri Kofinas’ Hidden Forces.  Billionaire philanthropist and environmental activist Jeremy Grantham has called The Rise Of Carry:

“An important and unusual book.  Important not just for investors but all of society”.

Why have markets risen and crashed so spectacularly over the past 25 years? Why does the US stock market keep outpacing the growth of the economy? And why do traders and journalists take every utterance by central bankers as the word of God?

The answers lie in understanding the nature and growth of “carry” – an ancient and necessary form of risk sharing that has grown to dominate financial markets and the world economy. Kevin’s talk will explain these ideas in straightforward, non-technical terms and identify how they will impact our future.

Kevin Coldiron is a Lecturer in the Financial Engineering program at U.C. Berkeley’s Haas Business School. From 2002-2014 he was co-owner and at Algert Coldiron Investors, a San Francisco-based hedge fund. He spent 11 years in the UK where he founded the hedge fund business for Barclays Global Investors and earned an MBA from London Business School. He is currently living in Ohope.
