Mary O'Hagan - Government Inquiry into Mental Health and Addiciion

Registration is closed for this event

This Inquiry is in response to failures and deeply felt concerns about mental health and addiction services expressed by people with experience of mental illness and distress, their whanau and families, health professionals, service providers and community organisations.

The purpose is to develop recommendations for a better and cohesive mental health and addiction service and approach for Aotearoa, New Zealand.  The Peoples' Report on Mental Health services facilitated by Action Station last  year was a catalyst for this Government Inquiry.

Mary O'Hagan has a lived experience of mental health services, and co-established a new model of mental health support, PeerZone, which is a social enterprise informed by lived experience that provides resources and supports for people with mental distress. She is the author of the book Madness Made Me and is a former Mental Health Commissioner.

Mary will look at the some issues and problems in our mental health and addiction services, focus on the hopes that are held for this Inquiry and its recommendations and discuss the Wellbeing Manifesto, which is  a collective submission to the Inquiry that is being led by PeerZone and Action Station.
