Auckland Local Government: a Panel Discussion

Registration is closed for this event

Please note that this session will be conducted via Zoom. Instructions for joining the Zoom session will be emailed to you when you register.

Leading up to the 2022 Local Elections and considering ‘the review of Local Government’, we present a panel discussion with:

• Julienne Molineaux, Director Policy Observatory, AUT
• Pippa Coom, Auckland Councillor - Waitematā and Gulf ward
• Juile Fairey, Chair, Puketāpapa Local Board, Auckland Council
• Mat Danaher, Union Organiser, E tū Transformation Campaigns

These are interesting times for local government. Local government and especially Auckland the Supercity, is in the process of confronting many issues at once – housing, climate, congestion, huge infrastructure builds and incredibly challenging social and financial realities. All this while we are invited to review local government, its role, funding and organisation. In Auckland we have a very distinct voting patterns and a complex history let alone geography. Some councils are also seeking Maori wards. Local government is in for change. All these make for debate but more prescient we are called to vote next year, 2022. What are the issues? What is likely to influence the narratives? Can we do some homework now and think. This panel will canvass the topics and prep us on the pathway to be hewn.
